What stands out?

  1. After 25 years, nominal wealth is 5.9% above the starting amount. In today’s purchasing power it is 35.5% below.
  2. The initial withdrawal is 4.0% of starting wealth. The model pays out €640,606 in total; foregone compounding adds roughly €523,227 to the difference versus no withdrawals.
  3. A 5.0% average is smooth in this calculation. Real markets are not. Two paths with the same average return can produce very different outcomes when withdrawals occur early.

The calculation is clear. The future is not.

The meter applies the same return every year and deducts the withdrawal at year-end. Actual returns fluctuate. With withdrawals, the sequence of good and bad years can materially change the outcome.
